One thousand years ago, a powerful summoner called Yu Yevon summoned Sin with the power of the fayth to destroy Bevelle in the Machina War. But Sin destroyed Zanarkand and Bevelle. For years, Sin has been terrorizing Spira. Yu Yevon's daughter, Yunalesca made up the Spiral of death. She told people that if people stop using machina and atone for their sins, Sin will stop coming back. This eventually turned into the religion of Yevon. Summoners would go on a pilgrimage throughout Spira to obtain the Final Aeon and defeat Sin. But it always came back. To summon the Final Aeon, the summoner must choose a guardian to become the fayth for the Final Aeon. After Sin gets defeated, Yu Yevon merges with the final aeon and the Final Aeon becomes the new Sin. That whole process was a hopeless campaign and the Yevon religion was nothing but lies.
